Well as you may have noticed from the new ad’s and powered by image, we recently launched a new brand over at RikeMedia called VPSSpeed. VPSSpeed provides low-budget unmanaged Linux VPS hosting on the OpenVZ platform.

VPSSpeed has been in the pipeline for almost a year, as have several other web-hosting sites that we’ll be opening up in the near future. We opened up and saw an immediate surge in orders and this has continued since our launch. There seems to be no stopping the customers flocking to VPSSpeed!

I can’t blame them though, there are few VPS providers out there that can provide a 512MB VPS plan for under $15 /month and include a free control panel.

As VPSSpeed expands we’ve got loads of plans for it, including:
- Addition of Xen based VPS plans
- TUN Support (for stuff like OpenVPN)
- Pre-purchase reseller plans (i.e you can buy 2GB RAM, 500 GB HDD and 1TB bandwidth and allocate it out to your own VPS plans)
- Affiliate program to earn commission
- Updates Blog (to let people know about exciting new additions)
- A range of OS Templates to cover multiple versions of each supported OS.
- The addition of a Slackware template
- A pre-configured cPanel OS template
- A pre-configured DirectAdmin OS template
- A pre-configured Webmin Template
- A ‘hardened’ template (for those users without a control panel or who need a bit of help with server security!)

All these exciting features will be rolled out starting soon. Obviously not all at once, but we’ll get there!

VPSSpeed are currently running a special offer – get 10% off for life, plus an Unmetered 10mbps bandwidth connection (great for streaming!). Just use the coupon UNMETERED to claim the special offer! It expires on 15th March so be sure to get signed up soon!

The folks over at CodeWeavers have today announced that they will be giving away ALL their CrossOver apps for FREE tomorrow! You can download a full version of any of their software packages for Linux or Mac OS X!

They are also giving all existing customers a free year extension on their existing licenses. Great work guys!

Hi,

I’ve got you down as an Advocate for CrossOver, which means that from
time to time, I ask you to advocate on our behalf. If you don’t want to
be an Advocate, holler back, and I’ll remove you.

However, I have made a grave error in judgment, and I’d like your help
in spreading my apology. It also creates a great opportunity to
encourage others to try CrossOver.

Specifically, I had no idea when we launched the CodeWeavers Lame Duck
Challenge:
http://lameduck.codeweavers.com
that George Bush would take it so seriously. And it was truly
remarkable of him to engineer a complete collapse of our financial
industry just to prove he could meet my challenge. My fault; I had
thought he would try more prudent methods.

However, this does create a great opportunity for you to spread the word
about CrossOver, as tomorrow, anyone can get a fully functioning, fully
supported copy of CrossOver, for free. Existing customers can get
another year of support, again for free. It’s a great day for any
CrossOver user, and a great time for anyone to try CrossOver.

I would really appreciate it if you could spread the word. Tell your
friends and family, post it to your blogs. We’d really appreciate extra
diggs on our announcement:
http://digg.com/software/CodeWeavers_giving_away_all_software_Tuesday_Oct_28th

But do it quick – it’s one day only, and after tomorrow, the opportunity
is gone.

Thanks, and again, please accept my humble apologies for any harm done
to your retirement savings.

Jeremy White
CEO
CodeWeavers, Inc.

Well Jeremy….you’ve got my vote! Anyone who is prepared to give away a fantastic piece of software for free deserves a pat on the back!

Be sure to digg their post using the link in the above quote.

Well the rest of the blogging world covered this within 2 seconds of it being accidentally announced by Google. Personally I wanted time to think about and read the speculation about this exciting news.

If you’ve not yet read Google’s blog post announcing their own Web Browser, click here. Now, I’ve read that many people are not liking this. Sure there’s umpteen browsers out there, do we need another one? Yes, actually we do.

The Google browser is not about Google getting into bigger markets. Its not about power, money or popularity. Its about filling a void which currently no other company has even looked at, let alone attempted to fill.

The new browser promises “Multi-Threading” which allows processes to be managed, much like they are in Activity Monitor (OS X) and Task Manager (Windows). For instance, you can quit processes for javascript, or audio, movies, etc exclusively, allowing the rest of the web-page to function as usual.

This is a browser for cloud computing. Like it or lump it, cloud computing exists, sure its a fancy term for something thats always been around, but thats just how it works.

I’ll post a follow up review once the browser gets released later today. (I’ll be trying to get it running under WINE or Crossover on OS X first )

A few weeks back, I was browsing the web and headed to RegisterFly.com to see if they had been wiped off the net yet (no such luck!). I was shocked when I found I was redirected to “RegFly.com” and even more shocked to see that they had removed the ICANN termination notice that was supposed to be kept visible indefinently.

I took this opportunity to browse around and ended up in a live chat conversation with Robert O’Neil, former GM of RegisterFly, now the apparent owner and CEO. Whats more disturbing is that it has now emerged that Kevin Medina is in joint ownership, however Robert denies any involvement with Kevin.

After snooping and reading around, it appears that RegisterFly’s back to reselling domains from TuCows, how many unfortunate people they have as customers is unknown, however it does seem that TuCows are supporting these scam artists.

Shortly after my talk with “Bob”, RegisterFlies, the former information and help site for former RegisterFly customers re-opened its website and plans to continue providing coverage, support and to ensure that the world knows about Kevin and his scam squad!

Heres a copy of my chat discussion with bob. Its worrying that a person with his level of grammar, punctuation and general “people skills” is in charge of a chat session, let alone a company!

You are now chatting with bob.
bob: hello how can i help you
ME: Hi, why has your company registerfly rebranded to regfly?
bob: did not know we where not allowed to rebrand
ME: I was just wondering what the reason was for the rebranding, is it to avoid having to keep the ICANN termination notice or something else?
bob: well the company was sold in aug of 07
bob: so its not the same owners
bob: or mngt
bob: the new owners will be moveing all services over to regfly.com
bob: as well as a new site design
bob: and more tools
bob: i belive the process has already started
bob: the icann termination notice has nothing to do with us any more
ME: Sold to who? Robert O’Neill (CEO) was in the picture before the sale, and is still the CEO of RegisterFly…I know Kevin is now gone, and hope you guys can get the place back. However people (including myself) still have funds in their accounts that cant be used….I cant do anything in my account as its all broken.
bob: that served for the domain registrar part of the company who we no longer own or do any thing with as those names where trasfered to go daddy
bob: yes
bob: yes i was the GM
bob: of rfly when we had the problems
bob: i came on in feb of 07
bob: i bought the company from kevin
bob: in aug
bob: well just the site
bob: as well as 2 other investors
bob: in hopes of rebuilding the brand
ME: Ahh ok…I remember you were trying to help out….so whats happening to kevin? Will he be taken to court or anything?
bob: kevin has had nothing to do with this company since july of 07
bob: not a clue
bob: what happned to him
bob: lol
ME: oh ok…well thanks for the insight. I wish you luck at rebuilding the brand. You’ve got a big job ahead of you!
bob: yes
bob: thanks
bob: we are trying
bob: as rfly still has the best interface
bob: in the biz

Some rather worring facts have been made clear from this huge mess:

RegisterFly is back, and is scamming people once again

Kevin Medina is in some way in control of the company, along with Robert O’Neil (“Bob”)

TuCows is either blind and doesn’t know what RegisterFly did (however this is very unlikely) or is happy to support these scammers

The ICANN notice has been removed, and RegisterFly is trading as RegFly under a new registered company, “Retail Web Solutions, Inc.”

Here are a few useful links to read about everything.

Thread with the initial findings by myself
More findings from Registerflies
RegisterFlies.com

If anyone has and further information, feel free to leave a comment.
